Runic gives 'Torchlight 2' release date at last

Co-op dungeon crawling, here we come!

For fans of the first game, today's news will come as a welcome relief. Runic Games have leaked the release date, ahead of their official announcement at PAX Prime, of their follow-up dungeon crawler Torchlight 2: September 20th 2012.

Runic co-founder Travis Baldree posted the news on their community forum just a few hours before the date will be announced at the opening of PAX Prime this morning. The game has seen its launch delayed and postponed to the level whereby many were beginning to doubt if it would see the light of day before next year. Today's announcement puts paid to the nay-sayers, and allows those who had pre-ordered the game via outlets such as Steam to collectively breathe a hearty sigh of relief. Mopped brows all round, I am sure.

For the uninitiated, the Torchlight series is a dungeon crawler much in the style of Blizzard's Diablo, with visuals that most favorably compare to World of Warcraft – cartoon role-playing that doesn't take itself too seriously, an aspect that puts it at the opposite end of the spectrum to Diablo, with its hyper-gothic visual style.
